About Us

Woven Between Worlds is a cultural and creative company creating space for people to explore identity, culture, connection, and belonging through storytelling, art, education, community, and shared experiences.

We believe identity does not always fit neatly into one place, culture, history, or definition. Many of us exist between worlds — holding multiple identities, relationships, memories, and experiences at the same time.

Woven Between Worlds was created to honor that complexity.

Our Story

Woven Between Worlds began through founder Johanna Kepler’s artistic and academic research exploring cultural memory, embodiment, adoption, and her own relationship to Guatemala.

What began as a graduate research project grew into something much larger. Through the Guatemalan Interview Project, hundreds of people began sharing stories about adoption, migration, family, culture, language, identity, and belonging. Those conversations revealed a need for spaces where people could explore cultural connection without being asked to simplify who they are.

Woven Between Worlds grew from that idea into a broader platform for storytelling, education, artistic practice, cultural experiences, and community.

Through Experiences, we bring people together through cultural journeys, exhibitions, events, and immersive opportunities for connection.

Through Community, we create spaces for people to share, participate, collaborate, and build relationships across identities and cultures.

Meet the Founder

Woven Between Worlds was founded by Johanna Kepler, an interdisciplinary artist, researcher, educator, and cultural storyteller whose work explores identity, cultural memory, embodiment, adoption, and belonging.

Her work brings together artistic practice, ethnographic research, education, storytelling, and community building to explore the ways people carry culture and memory across generations, borders, and experiences.

Community Lead

Calee Reyna was born in Amatitlán, Guatemala, and was raised in Kentucky. She speaks Spanish and has been actively involved in Kentucky’s Latino community through mentorship, education, and service. She is currently preparing to pursue a legal education and a career in law and public service. In recent years, she has become more intentional about reconnecting with Guatemala and exploring her identity, culture, and adoption story. Through sharing her experiences, she seeks to strengthen connections within the Guatemalan adoptee community and create space for adoptees to share their stories, explore their identities, and find community with one another

Alexis Kydon is a dedicated tenured New York City Public Schools educator based in Rockland County, NY. Rooted in the firm belief that a classroom succeeds only when every child feels safe, valued, and represented, Alexis centers her teaching philosophy on inclusive, culturally responsive practice. As a Guatemalan adoptee, Alexis brings a deeply personal perspective to her work. By treating each student’s unique background as a vital foundation for active learning, she aims to cultivate critical thinking, equity, and deep empathy—empowering all children to grow into confident, thoughtful members of a diverse world. Throughout her career, she has actively completed and contributed to workshops and professional development centered on addressing cultural bias and advancing cultural responsiveness during adolescence. Alexis earned her Bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from the University of Delaware in 2018, followed by her Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in 2019.

Eliana is a Guatemalan adoptee whose personal journey has brought together her connection to Guatemala, her work in immigration law, and her commitment to advocacy. Born in Guatemala and adopted as an infant, she was raised in Chicago and spent much of her life knowing Guatemala as the place where her story began, without fully understanding what that meant for her identity. Her interest in migration and displaced communities began long before becoming a lawyer. She studied International Relations, Political Science, and Asian Studies before earning her Juris Doctor, and previously worked in Refugee Resettlement. She now works in immigration law in Charleston, South Carolina, where she moved intentionally after seeing a need for immigration legal services and an opportunity to help fill that gap. After reconnecting with Guatemala and discovering more of her own story, Eliana became passionate about the experiences of Guatemalan adoptees and the questions international adoption can leave behind. Through the Guatemalan Interview Project, she brings both her lived experience and legal perspective to amplifying adoptee voices and creating space for adoptees to better understand where they come from and who they are today.

Anna is a passionate advocate who believes every international adoptee deserves to understand and celebrate the unique pieces of their identity. Born in Guatemala City in late 2004, Anna understands intimately the beauty, complexity, and resilience involved in reconnecting with one's biological roots. She has spent years actively connecting to her heritage through searching for her biological family and reclaiming her identity, including renewing her Guatemalan passport in the summer of 2025. Her self taught journey of cross referencing DNA matches and historical documents has sparked a deep love for genealogy and a lifelong passion to help other adoptees navigate their own paths to discovery one day.
